Boat Blue Book: Is There a Kelley Blue Book for Boats? (2026 Values)
Kelley Blue Book is a car guide; it has no section for boats. Boat owners searching for a blue book end up at J.D. Power (the old NADA guide), at BUC, or at live asking prices like the ones below. Here is what each one tells you and when to trust it.

Is there a Kelley Blue Book for boats?
No. Kelley Blue Book values cars and trucks; it does not publish values for boats. When people say "boat blue book" they usually mean one of two guide books that lenders, insurers and brokers use, or simply "what is my boat worth right now". The guide books answer the first question; live asking prices answer the second.

Book value vs. asking price
- A guide book value assumes average condition and standard equipment. Repowers, electronics, a newer trailer and storage history move a real boat away from book in both directions.
- Asking prices are what sellers list at, not what buyers pay. Final private-sale prices usually settle below asking.
- Dealer asking prices include reconditioning and warranty; a private seller with the same boat usually lists lower.
- Use the book figure to understand what a lender will finance, and the live figure to price the boat to sell.

Frequently asked questions
- Does Kelley Blue Book have boat values?
- No. Kelley Blue Book covers cars and trucks and does not publish boat values. The guides used for boats are J.D. Power Marine (formerly NADA Guides) and BUC Value.
- What is the blue book for boats called?
- Most people mean J.D. Power Marine values, which used to be published as NADA Guides. Brokers also use BUC Value. Neither is called a blue book; the phrase is borrowed from cars.
- Is book value what my boat will sell for?
- Not usually. Book values assume average condition and equipment. Live asking prices for comparable boats are a closer guide to what buyers will see when they shop, and final prices typically settle a little below asking.
- How do I find the value of my boat for free?
- Look up the type, brand and decade medians on this page for the band, then run the free appraisal, which compares your boat to the closest live listings by brand, year and condition.
