Volume kept prices low, and older Bayliners earned a reputation for thin gelcoat and budget hardware. - On any pre-2010 Bayliner, walk the entire deck and cockpit floor listening for soft spots — wet foam and rotted stringers are the deal-breaker, and they hide under carpet
- Sterndrive models need the outdrive history in hand: bellows, gimbal bearing, water pump impeller, and (in salt) manifolds and risers
- Budget for the trailer: Bayliner packages shipped with light-duty trailers and many have rusted brakes and tired bunks by now
